The Need to Unlearn and Relearn
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and re-learn. ~ Alvin Tofler
If I could only suggest six books to help someone begin the journey of unlearning and relearning I would recommend these six. They each provide a different way to think about the church in an increasing missionary context.
- The Gospel in a Pluralist Society by Lesslie Newbigin
- The Church and Its Vocation by Michael Goheen
- The Forgotten Ways by Alan Hirsch
- Exiles by Michael Frost
- The Tangible Kingdom by Hugh Halter and Matt Smay
- Underground Church by Brian Sanders
If you have small groups in your church and are looking for a resource to help them move more deeply into mission, you might consider the small group curriculum and I and my friend Lance Ford created titled Missional Essentials. In fact, if you do have a group(s) use the study guide, I would be happy to join a zoom call with your group to answer questions or do a summary of the curriculum.
